jodie's baby shower was featured over at the creative party place.
such a fun website... go check it out!!
Read more...i'm loving this idea... they look like cute little test tubes filled with candy.
i even found the tubes here. 100 of them for only 12 bucks.
fun pumpkin ideas from good housekeeping

love these halloween pennants...

when jamie and i saw the idea for a cookies and milk baby shower here... we knew we had to have one for jodie. we planned the whole thing on our drive to utah a couple months ago. it was so much fun. we both had the same idea for the color combination, which just happens to be one of my favorites right now! red. aqua. and pink. we were really happy with the way everything turned out!
jamie made the invites of course...
i was dying to do something with big round balloons. i actually wanted them a little bigger but they worked!
jamie made the cookie labels and the papers to go in the jars...
my mom, jamie, jen, tauni, and i all made the yummy cookies.
thanks for the help girls!
my mom also made the cute polka dot tablecloth
jodie and i have been trying out some new stuff for the craft boutique.
we've got quite a few super cute new hair clips we've been working on.

and then we started on these fun banners.
we have a ton of great fabric combinations in the works.
we've been having lots of fun hanging out and making them.

~dear mrs. pioneer woman, why did you have to become so popular? i mean i really am happy and excited for you. but this week when i tried to win myself a fancy new kitchen aid ... my comment was number 19599! now that is just crazy business!
~dear biggest loser producers, you've done it again. you made me cry all through the season premiere. i'm loving most of the people you've chosen. especially abby. who has survived the unthinkable. just one complaint. jillian's potty mouth is out of control already!
~dear baby girl melton, i'm really looking forward to meeting you. my votes are in for your name. not thinking i'm gonna win but here they are anyways. i think you'd be the cutest piper ann. or equally as cute as ava jane. but as long as your not a stella (no offense to any stella's out there) ... i'm sure your name will grow on me. :)
~dear josh and awburn, you are officially under 1 month to go! oh... and i don't have a dress yet. yikes.
~dear cafe rio pork quesadilla, you really need to leave me alone. i mean i love you and all but i can't be driving across town to see you all the time. stop calling my name. please.
~dear house, i'm so excited to decorate you for halloween. i'm just making myself wait one more week since there's a baby shower here next saturday and it would kinda clash with what we got planned for the super cute shower.
~dear kati, hope the hubby made it home safe and everything is going good. you've been on my mind. :)
~dear craft boutique, you are in the works. i'm just trying to decide where to have you this year. we have to do one of two things. 1. find a bigger location or 2. cut back on crafters. i'm going to have to make that decision soon and i really don't know what to do yet.
~dear family and friends, hope you have a great weekend!
~edited to add: dear blogger, thanks for making things extra difficult today.
post inspired by a kelly mccaleb post
we had a little family dinner for jacob's birthday on sunday.
his first choice for the menu was spaghetti, but when i told him grandpa wasn't a big fan of spaghetti he changed his mind to burritos/tacos. which worked for me... cause that just happens to be one of my favorites and it's a pretty easy dinner to cook.
then when i asked him what he wanted for a cake he said grandma's cookie pie. she was nice enough to oblige.
last year while carpooling with the nash family melody started this tasty tradition. every tuesday mason would come home from school with some kind of yummy treat and a smile on his face. now that our friends live on the other side of the world.. i mean city. i decided i wanted to carry on the tradition this year. so as soon as the kids get in the car on tuesdays they start chanting tuesday treat day! i'm pretty sure they like it!!

the weekend before last we headed up to the utah house for a little getaway.
jamie and the kids were able to go.
and jodie's kids got to join us so her and matt could do some packing.
we headed up friday afternoon.
made a stop at marv's in st. george.
i had the grilled ham and cheese and the kids had the crazy long corn dogs like usual.
plus fries and fry sauce of course.
saturday was packed with lots of fun.
we went to the corn fest.
cooked in the hot summer sun.
the kids swam in the little blow up pool.
we harvested some fruits and veggies from the garden.
built a huge sandcastle town.
jamie and i even made tunnels.
got really dirty.
had a dance off to boom boom pow.
rode 4 wheelers.
crashed hard that night.
had cracker barrel for breakfast on the way home.
{at the corn festival}

{in the garden}

we were hoping for a great first day of school. unfortunately it didn't go as smoothly as we hoped it would go... but they still survived.
yes... for whatever reason jake was allowed to keep his hair long this year. thanks to all of you who kept telling him it looked good long. you don't have to make sure it's all laying down when he leaves every morning. :)
jake didn't seem nervous at all. totally unlike last year where we were both sick to our stomachs. as we pulled up we saw 2 of his friends. trevor and avery. so i let him out there. i guess we were still far enough away from the school that they all let me snap this picture real quick.
about an hour after school had started lisa gave me a call to let me know jake was in the cafeteria with about half of the seventh grade who hadn't gotten their seventh grade shot. well we had and i had taken in his shot record and they made a copy... so i was a little annoyed. never heard from jake so i figured they had it worked out. about an hour later he called and said i needed to bring his shot record up to the school. when i got up there i could see the anxiety on his face. i felt bad for him. so i took his record up there and found out he wasn't even on the list. his schedule was just lost... it had nothing to do with his shots. so i was pretty annoyed by this point. the counselors said. it will show up. just to sit and wait. when the bell rang for second period and no one was doing anything about it i went back up and asked how long he was suppose to just sit here and wait for his schedule to magically appear. and if there was anything i could do to help? that's when someone had the brilliant idea to make a copy of his schedule. finally with his schedule in his hand things are looking up. that's when he does a big ugh! and says they put him in band when band was his 3rd choice. haha. poor kid. wasn't having a good day. (he did get it changed to computers within the next few days) the rest of his day was good though. he ended up having one of his best friends in all his classes.
mason has officially started the awkward smiling phase. sad sad news.
mason was excited for school. again i don't think he was nervous at all either. when we got there he wanted to find his dot and play wall ball. but after school when i picked him up he took one look at me and started to bawl. he said he had to pull his card for talking. i'll have to admit i was a little angry at the teacher for doing this on the first day of school. i mean i understand you have to teach them the rules.. but on the first day?

grace was excited but definitely nervous. she kept complaining of a stomach ache. then at one point she about brought me to tears when she said she could feel her heart beating in her throat. she was way more nervous for first grade then she was with kindergarten. i tried not to let her think about how nervous she was... just kept telling her how much fun she was going to have. after school she said it was a good day. but she still wished she had miss schmidt (her teacher from last year)
our night started off with some yummy sub sandwiches, macaroni salad, fruit and chips. and with grace asking a million times when the fashion show would start. all the kids were very excited to participate this year except for cade who announced he was NOT doing it. ha! but he was convinced and all it took was a promise of 2 green gumballs. (that was easy)
this was just a shot to see if my camera could handle the horrible lighting...
but who knew tauni was smiling so cute for me... so here it is.
our host/comedian for the event
jake had to miss baseball practice for this. i was glad i didn't have to ask for him too... dave decided on his own.
last year... he had to be "forced" to participate. but this year he was soaking it all in!

awburn's bridal shower was a couple weeks ago. the wedding date is just over a month now. it'll be here before we know it.
she "hinted" she wanted bright pink and lime green as the colors of her shower... and that's what she got. it was very cute. her mom and bridesmaids did a great job putting it together.
i got to make the take home favors. white chocolate popcorn. i had to bring in some help because there were 60 bags to make. my sisters and jen came and helped. it's always a fun time with them.

awburn was so fun to watch open her gifts. and she had a ton of them! she thoroughly enjoyed opening ever single one. it was great! of course now i like to tease her about her... fa-bu-lous reactions!! but who doesn't like to give gifts to someone who is overjoyed with everything!!
awburn and her bridesmaids

i had such good intentions of long fun visits with our favorite friends in utah. but as summer was quickly coming to an end i found myself with 4 whole days that were available to sneak out to lehi to visit the browns. so the day after i got back from my girls trip... i did a ton of laundry, repacked the suitcase, loaded the kids up and we were on our way.
the trip up was so nice. the kids were quiet. watching movies and playing video games. fries and nuggets in mesquite. ice cream in beaver. we were taking our time. the browns had a neighborhood activity going on that evening so i drug the kids through the quilted bear once we got there. there was nothing good so we made it through in record time. then we had dinner at cafe rio. just as yummy as here... of course. then we headed over to pam and josh's house.
we had a fun visit. we visited the aquarium. the kids got to touch and feed sting rays. we were lucky enough to be able to see both abbie and mckena play in their soccer games. pam got us a babysitter. so we had a girls day shopping. the kids played video games and jumped on the trampoline. josh set up a backyard movie for the kids. this year grace was the only one to fall asleep during it. before we knew it our time was up and we had to load up and head back home. (i'm sure ella was glad to see me go. she didn't want to be my friend :( maybe next time)
at the beginning of the month i was lucky enough to get away for a couple days with jodie and jen. we had a blast. laughing and joking. shopping and eating.
some things i'll never forget...
- our first meal was hot dogs at ikea. i wondered if i had picked the wrong girls to vacation with. :)
- our free hotel. in a sketchy neighborhood. but ended up in a pretty good location for everything we wanted to do. the pool that was an oasis. (hotel's description... we didn't waste our time there)
- yummy el torito dinner at the marina. all our "friends" in the parking lot.
- the best breakfast i've had..... ever maybe. french toast at the griddle. trying to pick which waiter was the cutest. for jen of course.
- my first trip to the fashion district. it's kinda like joanns fabric store meets tijuana.
- our first stop was michael levine fabric store. all those trendy fabrics we loved and bought.
- a walk down santee alley. falling in love with a purse. jen and i buying the purse. turquoise for me. fuchsia for jen. jodie didn't want to be part of our purse club?
- this cute guy would ask for some money and then he'd strike a pose as you dug through your purse and pockets. it was so funny.
- our failed attempt to visit the container store. the parking garage was just over 6 feet tall. unlike ours here in vegas... over 8 feet. there was a janitor that just happened to be there. he wasn't sure if we'd fit. i wasn't up for trying. he had to direct traffic so i could back up and get out. i was so embarrassed. jodie and jen thought it was totally funny of course.
- cheesecake factory. not our best meal. i had a cold and couldn't taste my food. jen was enjoying her's till she found a mystery ingredient in it. (ended up being a huge bone yuck!) we had a dirty fork with food in it. a rookie waiter who liked to hold your glass by the rim. but we did take home a slice of red velvet cake cheesecake. but i couldn't really taste it... and jen said it was just ok. haha.
sure was pretty though...
- shopping at 3rd street promenade. lots of street performers. great singers. jen fell in love with a monkey with a cowboy hat. great sale at gapkids. good pizza for lunch but still wondering why we were the only ones in the restaurant.
- dinner at el cholo. totally yummy. ate most of mine and then some of jodies.

** jake was very excited to make the allstar team again this year and i think dave was equally excited to be the manager. they ended up winning 2 and losing 2 and made it to the semi finals for the first time. the semi final game started out with a bang with us scoring 4 points in the first inning... but sadly we ended up losing. jake played a great shortstop and he was not ready for the games to be over. i'm sure he'd play everyday if he could. (even in this 110 degree weather)

doesn't seem that long ago that i got a phone call from my aunt sandy filled with worry and tears letting me know that calie had had her baby. came to a shock to all of us since he wasn't even due till september and ended up being born on june 30th. it was a scary and crazy day... but most of all a day filled with blessings and miracles. i was lucky enough to see him that first day. so tiny. with the most beautiful face and eyebrows. oh... how i loved those eyebrows. :)

june 3rd.
second to the last day of school.
mason received an award at the assembly.
i think he was happy.

at the end of may we had a family get together to celebrate my mom and quincy's birthdays. while the kids were jumping on the trampoline the sprinklers came on. well they didn't last long enough so we turned the hose on them. they loved it "raining" while they jumped.
...
here's the cupcakes we had

here's the watermelon pops jamie made...
the last senior session to share which was really the first senior session this year is my nephew jeffery. he's off to be a golf star at college this fall in snyder, texas. he really does have some serious skills. one of dave's favorite things to do is watch him play in his golf tournaments. jeffery has a great sense of humor and always keeps us laughing. he's fun to be around and the kids of course love him. good luck at college jeffery. we wish you the best in everything you do.

connie was a bit emotional about her baby leaving the house.
completely understandable.. but we still like to tease her about it.

oh where do i start with morgan. back in our old ward i got to serve in the young womens. that's where i got to really know this sweet girl. we spent some great years at girls camp. we always had a blast!! i think i had more fun as an adult at girls camp than i did as a youth... if that's possible.
she's been a babysitter of ours for many years. back when the kids were really little and dave was working crazy long hours she was babysitting for us almost every weekend so i could get that little break that i desperately needed! and the kids have always loved her!!
it's been fun watching her grow up. i look forward to many more announcement and invitations to exciting things through her life.
congratulations morgan!! we love you!

this is casey. teara's boyfriend.
he was such a trooper. this photoshoot lasted a good 4 hrs with the 2 of them.
he talked to his dad on the phone at one point and i heard him say...
"yea... we're STILL taking pictures" haha.
congratulations on your graduation last week casey!!

i've had a couple really fun senior sessions this year. i've never got around to sharing yet... so this weeks the week.
we might as well start of with one of my favorite models. my cousin teara. she's very fun and easy to photograph! and she's been posing for me for a pretty long time. we had a great time checkin out these new locations!

i'm still in a little shock she graduated last week. i wish the best for her as she starts this new part of her life. i've enjoyed watching her grow into the beautiful young woman that she is and i look forward to seeing the great things she does in her life! love ya girl!!

our family has lost 6 teeth in about 2 months.
mason lost his first tooth in april.
then grace lost her first at the end of may.
about a month before her 6th birthday.
she lost her first a whole year earlier than mason did.
then grace lost her second one the week after her first.
so now she's lost more teeth than mason.
then i guess jake needed some attention.
he wiggled 2 out last week.
and on tuesday dave had to get a wisdom tooth pulled.
so the tooth fairy is broke!

i found this group of pictures from the wedding luncheon (along with christmas and thanksgiving and lots of other really old pictures) when i downloaded dave's camera on to the computer. they make me smile. the complete randomness of the people in them and the fact that mason was in charge of the camera again.

last week gracie had her end of the year dance recital.
she did such a good job.
she was so fun to watch.
we took a couple pictures before we left

she's in heaven on recital days because she gets to wear make up.
her cute teacher miss jolynn...
up on stage and ready to go.
she danced to lollipop and a wonderful world.

after the show with her flowers.
